Following a survey into rural housing needs, Nether Stowey Parish Council approached Falcon Rural Housing Ltd to find a suitable site within the village and build 7 houses to rent to local residents. Now the houses are nearly completed and the new tenants will be moving in early in October.
Falcon housing were picked because of their commitment to build low cost but sustainable houses.
"Falcon Rural Housing is a pioneering developer of affordable housing exclusively for local people in the villages of Somerset and Devon. Falcon is renowned for building the highest quality homes that are highly sustainable both in construction methods and energy use. Every home is now constructed from timber frame panels using only the best certified timber from sustainable forests. Every home has a solar hot water system, heat recovery and ventilation units and climate control. We no longer need to install boilers. Ever mindful of the causes and effects of Global warming our aim is to minimize the ecological footprint of the homes we build, whilst also making them healthy and affordable places in which to live. The houses are built by Merlin Timber Frame Ltd and project managed by Duncan Attwell, who is based in North Curry. The designer of the houses is Richard Wadley from Strode Gloucester. Both were on hand to discuss the development with parish councilors from Nether Stowey and also from other rural parishes in the area.
