British Mountain Unicycling weekend

Unicycling on the Quantocks
Setting off from Deadwoman's Ditch

Down into Ramscombe

June 2005
From as far as Nottingham to Dartmoor they came to ride The Quantocks. On the weekend of 3rd/5th June an intrepid band of twenty or so unicyclists came to ride off-road across on the hills, covering distances of up to 20 miles a day.

This was the BMW 2005. Well, we're quite used to seeing mountain bikes on The Quantocks, but mountain unicycles? Having tried in the past to ride a few feet on a unicycle, with no success whatsoever, I was amazed that anyone would contemplate riding the hills on one. But there they were 20 or so of them of varying ages.

The weather on Saturday was good, but Sunday morning, when I caught up with them, saw a fair bit of rain. The ride for that morning was from Dead Woman's Ditch, down into Ramscombe, climbing to the Drove road, along to Triscombe Stone - and down the hill. Fair play to you all! Sounds like this is the sport for you? Then take a look at The Unicyclist Community website.
