Save The Plough

May 2002
Holford villagers have been battling to have their ancient inn, which is haunted by a 16th century Spanish traveller, reopened.

Mo Young from the 'Save the Plough' campaign reports:
A well attended meeting took place on Wednesday April 17th in Holford Village Hall. Roger Laidlaer, co-ordinator of the campaign reported on progress.
"We have received a fantastic amount of support from the community in the form of donations to our 'fighting fund' of £1450 and pledges to invest in the pub of over £100,000. Much support has also come from other outside agencies such as the Countryside Agency and the District Council. The planning authorities are being kept fully informed of our campaign. The current owners have not, so far, appealed against the refusal of their last planning application. The time limit for the appeal is early June." Roger also outlined possible structures for a company to buy The Plough and the availability of money from outside sources.

Recently a letter has been received from The Private Secretary of Prince Charles. I quote from the letter -

"His Royal Highness is very encouraged by the determination of you and the villagers of Holford to purchase the pub and reopen it. "The Prince of Wales has asked me to send you all in Holford his warmest good wishes for the future".
